Well that was awful. Henderson was easily our best player but why all the long ball? We just didn’t play as a team which we did so well last season. Let’s hope it’s a learning curve or this is going to be a long painful season.
SC has some work to do.

Colback worked his socks off today but rest of team froze. Difficult game to start the season can't wait to see us back at the City Ground, get some points and confidence back.

OK, so not the best result & possession wise we got battered.
But it's only the 1st game, did anyone really expect us to come away today unbeaten. It could've been a 1st game nerves get to Newcastle day & we get lucky, but sadly not to be.
At least we didn't get Tonked 4-1 (Southampton).
1 interesting note from today's games, Davis didn't even make the 18 for Villa today🙄

Agree, this was always going to be a tough game and with six brand new players it takes time despite the pre season. We also expect more to come. My only concern was the long ball and that’s likely to be fixed with more confidence.

I’ve been thinking a bit deeper about the game and the numerous set pieces we had to defend. I realize now that our defense did really well. Not one of those set pieces led to a goal and the two goals that were conceded were very well taken.

Wonder if Spence still thinks he's made the right choice joining Spurs.
4-1 up after 63mins, ideal time to bring on a debutant to get taste of PL action. They make 4 substitutions, 1 on 66mins, 2 on 86mins, 1 on 87mins & Spence isn't one of them 🙄
That's all I'll say, we've moved on

Of course, I was a bit disappointed (but realitic,too). Nevertheless, we ended the first half 0-0 (with an "ungelled" team).
But, as has already been mentioned, it was our first game in the PL - away against some "big boys" who have been together for a while.(Nerves will definitely have
played a part, too.) And, along the way, Surridge could / should have scored.
S. Cooper will have noted everything; I'm sure it will be "a different game" v West Ham, in front of our great fans. And we still have a long way to go.
